The Importance of a CV and How To Get it Right

At Roadhogs Recruitment, we review many CVs during the week. We’ve been in farming recruitment for over thirty-five years and have learned a thing or two about writing CVs. So, we thought it would be helpful to make a few suggestions.
It may seem obvious, but you must tailor your CV to the specific role for which you are applying. If you are applying for a stockperson’s job, you must highlight the particular skills and what you believe you can offer for the position. Take a moment to consider how to present yourself, and reap the rewards later when applying for jobs. If you are considering a career change, it is essential to clearly communicate why you are interested in pursuing a career in the pig industry.
Please remember that the employer uses a CV as a snapshot of who you are and what you’ve done in your career.
Top 7 CV Writing Tips
- Write a detailed CV that outlines your academic background, professional experience, skills, and achievements.
- Include ALL relevant work experience and avoid employment gaps – an employer would rather see a career change than speculate on breaks in employment.
- Begin with the most recent jobs and list the corresponding duties/tasks/responsibilities.
- Your CV must include as much relevant detail as possible, but it needs to be informative and concise – avoid rambling.
- Always double-check your CV for spelling, grammar, and errors. A mistake-free CV demonstrates professionalism and shows that you care about how you present yourself.
- Your details must be correct. Please include your email address, mobile number, and current home address. Also, please ensure that all your work history includes dates (when you started and finished each job).
- Include a cover letter or profile paragraph – Tie your experience and skills to the job you are applying for.
