Description

We are recruiting for a Junior Pig Stockperson in Derbyshire, DE6.

If you are starting out in the pig industry and keen to learn the ropes, read on.

The pig unit has recently been acquired and is now part of a family-run business with the vision and resources to invest significantly in both their facilities and employees.

They offer a comprehensive career development pathway for applicants seeking growth and advancement opportunities.

This unit is a 600-sow, straw-based breeding-to-finishing unit and is undergoing modernisation. The varied role on a three-weekly system will include serving, dry sow and farrowing house work, and working closely with the team to progress the unit.

You don't need to be a senior stockperson or have years of experience. What matters most is that you have the right attitude, a willingness to learn and a genuine passion for working with pigs.

Working alongside the Pig Manager and an experienced team, you'll have the opportunity to learn all areas of the unit, including:

  • Serving and breeding
  • Dry sow work
  • Farrowing
  • Piglet care
  • General stockmanship and animal husbandry
  • Developing your understanding of modern pig production

The role operates on a three-weekly system, giving you the chance to gain broad experience across the unit rather than being stuck doing the same job every day.

Person specifications:

  • Keen to learn and develop
  • Passionate about pigs and animal welfare
  • Hardworking, reliable and enthusiastic
  • Interested in building a long-term career in pig farming
  • Willing to listen, learn and take advice from experienced team members
  • Comfortable working as part of a team
  • Keen to take on more responsibility as their experience grows

Previous pig experience is helpful, but our client is more interested in your potential, attitude and willingness to learn.

This could be an ideal opportunity for the successful applicant to get their foot on the ladder in the pig industry, with the chance to learn from experienced people and progress as their skills develop.

Salary guide: From £30,000+ DOE

Benefits:

  • 32 days' holiday per annum
  • Assistance with housing
  • Workplace pension
  • Training and support

Hours: Rota, 12 days on, 2 days off.

Ready to learn the ropes?

If you've got a passion for pigs, a good work ethic and are looking for someone to give you the opportunity to learn and build a career, this could be the role for you.
