Description

We're recruiting a Pig Farm Manager for a farm in Co. Tipperary, E34.

Our client operates one of Ireland’s largest pigmeat businesses, with a fully integrated operation covering pig production, processing and food manufacturing. The group operates multiple pig farms and processing facilities across Ireland and has a significant workforce. Its farming division includes breeding, growing and finishing units, supported by dedicated veterinary, technical and production teams. With its scale and multi-site farming operation, the company is a significant employer within the Irish pig industry and could be an interesting organisation for recruitment and relief staffing services.

You will manage an indoor unit with 850 sows, fully integrated.

Key Responsibilities:

Production Management

  • Oversee and manage the entire pig production cycle
  • Plan and execute production schedules to ensure maximum productivity while maintaining animal welfare
  • Monitor pig health and growth, ensuring they meet production goals for weight and quality
  • Ensure that proper systems are in place to support the growth and welfare of the pigs

Animal Health & Welfare

  • Ensure regular health checks and vaccinations to maintain healthy livestock
  • Arrange vet visits and manage pig health
  • Maintain records of vaccinations, treatments, and health histories for all livestock

Team Leadership and Staff Management

  • Manage staff numbers and weekly performance
  • Find/ maintain accommodation for new and existing staff
  • Organise transport to and from work
  • Supervise, train, and motivate farm staff to perform daily tasks in accordance with farm protocols
  • Schedule and assign tasks to farm workers to ensure efficient operations
  • Ensure that all staff follow safety guidelines, animal welfare standards, and farm procedures
  • Foster a positive, productive work environment by promoting clear communication and teamwork

Farm Operations & Equipment

  • Oversee the maintenance and management of farm equipment, machinery, and facilities to ensure they are in good working condition
  • Ensure all farm equipment functions efficiently to support production

Record Keeping & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records on production performance, animal health, breeding, feed usage, and medication
  • Prepare and submit regular reports to senior management on production outcomes, challenges, and improvements
  • Meet weekly KPI’s and problem-solve underperforming sections
  • Ensure all staff records and training are up to date

Budgeting & Cost Control

  • Assist in managing the farm’s budget, including controlling costs related to feed, labour, equipment, and supplies
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising production quality or animal welfare
  • Plan, price, and oversee maintenance

Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with local regulations regarding animal welfare, environmental standards, and health & safety practices
  • Maintain records and prepare for auditor and inspector visits

 

Key Skills & Qualifications:

Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a supervisory or managerial role
  • Farming experience desirable but not essential
  • Strong knowledge of pig health management, breeding, and nutrition desirable

Education

  • A degree in animal science, agriculture, or a related field is preferred, but relevant work experience may be substituted

Skills

  • Proven leadership and team management skills
  • Understanding of biosecurity, animal welfare, and industry best practices
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities 

Personal Traits

  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends

 

Salary: €45,000 - €50,000 DOE

Hours:

  • 40 hours a week with every other weekend
